The Apostles

In his book The Imitation of Christ, Thomas à Kempis made a great statement about the Apostles. Let us learn from their example:

They were poor in earthly things but rich in grace and virtue. Outwardly destitute, inwardly they were full of grace and divine consolation. Strangers to the world, they were close and intimate friends of God. To themselves they seemed as nothing, and they were despised by the world, but in the eyes of God they were precious and beloved.

He Lived and Died for You!

"In recent years Christians have tended to focus on the death of Christ almost to the neglect of His sinless life. Jesus' life of perfect obedience has been seen mostly as a necessary precondition to His death. However, Jesus not only died for us; He also lived for us. All that Christ did in both his life and death, He did in our place as our substitute."— Jerry Bridges, Holiness Day By Dad, 44.

Remember that Jesus didn't only die for you, he lived for you! Because Jesus had to be without sin in order to be the perfect sacrifice, he lived for you and for me as he was living his life. He lived for you, so he could die for you!

Good Days, Bad Days, and Grace

"Your worse days are never so bad that you're beyond the reach of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you're beyond the need of God's grace." — Jerry Bridges.

This is so true. We will never be beyond the reach of God's grace and we will never be beyond the need of God's grace. It doesn't matter how good or bad of a day we are having, we will always need His grace.
